SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING
According to Zins & Elias (2011) social and emotional learning (SEL) is the capacity to recognize and manage emotions, solve problems effectively, and establish positive relationships with others, competencies that clearly are essential for all students. The goals are to develop self-awareness and self-management skills to achieve school and life success.
Anger Coping Program is designed to address core difficulties with emotional and cognitive self-regulation, including anger management, physiological and emotional awareness, perspective training and attribution retraining and social problem solving. The intervention created by Dr. Larson is closely linked to the social-cognitive developmental model that decreases aggressive behavior.
The Saturday Morning Alternative Reach-out and Teach (SMART) Program is an alternative to expulsion for students in 6th through 12th grade who violate categories 5 or 6 of the CPS Student Code of Conduct.
TEACHER IN SERVICE
Teacher In Service provides a refresher for teachers on subjects impacting their students. Studies have shown that the one thing that really makes an impact on student achievement is how well trained teachers are.
INTERVENTION FOR TRAUMA IN SCHOOLS (CBITS)
The Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) program is a group and individual intervention. Launched in California in response to record youth violence, it is designed to reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and behavioral problems as well as to improve class functioning, grades, attendance, peer/parent support and life-long coping skills.
Life Builders began as a substance abuse provider for youth. The primary goal of this intervention is to enhance participants’ motivation for education and behavior change in order to develop basic skills needed to achieve abstinence or gain control over substance use.
Restorative Practices help students to build capacity so they can self-regulate behavior and contribute to the improvement of learning outcomes.
